Solo And Famous

Simon Cowell

simon-cowell1Like George Clooney before him, Simon Cowell nearly didn’t make the cut to be Solo And Famous, but the recent news that he split with girlfriend of six years, former model Terri Seymour, changed all that. And we were only too delighted to hear it, even if Seymour is going around saying there will always be a special place in her heart for him.
“You know, I’ll always love Simon. When you’ve been with someone that long, you can’t help it.”
Cowell, on the other hand, is doing fine, declaring that he doesn’t need a lonely hearts ad and that he’s off women now. We’re not going to take that remark too seriously though as we live in the hope that The X Factor judge will keep his roving eye.
Simon Phillip Cowell was born on October 7, 1959 in Brighton, East Sussex, England to an estate agent developer/music industry executive father, and a former ballet dancer mother. After leaving school early, he eventually got a job in the mail room of EMI Music Publishing. His father’s connections saw him being hired as an assistant to an A&R man, a role that he worked his way up from until he left in the early ’80s to found E&S Music with his boss at EMI. The company had several hit records, although Cowell left some years later and went to work for Fanfare Records, which later got into financial difficulties. Cowell, in debt, was forced to move back in with his parents and later that year he became an A&R consultant for BMG and his meteoric rise had begun.
Cowell’s success behind the scenes was long established when he first appeared in the public eye as a judge on the first series of Pop Idol in 2001. With his cutting tongue and frequent put-downs, he immediately made an impact, not least for his unusual dress sense that saw him sporting high waisted trousers and tight tops. He was an unlikely sex symbol, the kind of guy you admitted to having a secret crush on after a few glasses of wine, however these days his Adonis status is well and truly confirmed. His outfits might still be questionable – he favours open-necked shirts and is a breath away from wearing a medallion – but his allure at this point is undeniable. When he gives his trademark wink women – and perhaps men – the world over. And now that his fellow judge Dannii Minogue has labelled him a bigger diva than Mariah Carey, we’re completely hooked. He’s got square hair and has admitted to botox, but, hey, nobody’s perfect, and our money’s on Simon continuing to triumph. Please God he stays single too ’cause it makes him that bit more beguiling.
