Solo Editor's Letter

Welcome to the very FIRST issue of Solo-magazine!

Issue 1: June 2008
Hello everyone! Welcome to the very first (June) issue of Solo – the online magazine for Ireland’s smartest singles, be they male, female, gay or straight. Here at Solo the philosophy is very simple. It is all about embracing being single. There are too many people out there who buy into the belief that being unattached is some sort of sad and desperate place to be. This is not the case! Singledom is a fun, happy, independent state of being – enjoy it while you can because it may not last forever! And remember: the only person you are guaranteed to spend the rest of your life with is yourself. And the most important relationship you’ll ever have is the one you have with you!
Now that the words of wisdom (!) are out of the way, what do we have for you in our very first issue? Well, Solo is divided into sections, which are clearly indicated on the site. And some of this month’s highlights include best man/bridesmaid advice, plus some helpful tips if you happen to be a single woman dealing with builders. Our gay section – Solo Out On The Scene – looks at the pluses and minuses of Gaydar, as well as bringing you a preview of this year’s aLAF (a Lesbian Arts Festival), which kicks off the first weekend in July. Solo Goes Out reviews The Farm and McSorleys, while Solo Stays In features a simple recipe for a summery evening. Solo Sabbatical is a regular piece for those who might want to take a break from their single status, while Solo And Famous will always feature a celebrity singleton and Solo Looks Back is our nostalgic indulgence.
This is just some of what we have in our launch issue. We hope to expand on our sections as time goes on and in the meantime we welcome all thoughts, opinions, ideas and queries. Happy reading for June!
