LITTLE BRITAIN GOES STATESIDE
Don’t you just hate it when folk get all PC? It was not music to our ears to hear that Little Britain USA has sparked outrage in America, with a gay rights group calling the programme ‘offensive’ and ‘obnoxious’. The new show, which of course stars David Walliams and Matt Lucas, is a spin-off based on the original series and apparently features male full-frontal nudity as well as a series of lesbian and gay gags. Naturally. Sure what else would it feature?
“This is the most politically incorrect, offensive and obnoxious material ever seen in this country,” said a spokesperson for the West Hollywood Gay and Lesbian Alliance.
Em, yes. That’s the whole point. It’s meant to be politically incorrect. Meanwhile, a representative for US TV network HBO, which begun airing the show at the end of September, claims officials will be taking note of any complaints about the material but insists that the series is about overcoming prejudices and leads the way in ‘edgy programming’.
Some US critics have already felt the need to label Little Britain USA too crude, although others have acknowledged the hilarity of the show’s antics. We have high hopes anyway for our favourite duo and their attempt to crack the notoriously difficult US market, particularly as Rosie O’Donnell reportedly did a star turn spoofing herself at Fat Fighter’s.
AUCTIONING ONE’S ‘GAY VIRGINITY’?!
An anonymous 27-year-old who’s just lost his job as an investment banker is supposedly auctioning off his ‘gay virginity’ to the highest bidder. The guy in question is saying that he’s straight but with the economic downturn turning downer by the day, he owes $32,000 in credit card debt and times are desperate. He promises the highest bidder 30 minutes of hot man-on-man action – but nothing anal. Mmm. He said he will wear a suit, meet the lucky winner in a 100 per cent legal setting such as a licensed brothel, where they can spend some time having a drink and breaking the ice etc. He will then give his version of the ideal hand or blow job until orgasm is reached (by the person paying presumably) or the 30 minutes is up.
SALMA HAYEK IS NOT A LESBIAN
Actress Salma Hayek got into a bit of a lesbian mix-up recently with non other than Northern Irish Eamonn Holmes. Hayek, who is half Mexican and half Lebanese, was being interviewed on live TV show This Morning when presenter Holmes commented on her surname.
“Hayek doesn’t sound very Mexican,” he noted.
“I’m half Lebanese,” she said.
“So you’re a lesbian?,” Holmes replied, although God knows why.
“I am Lebanese,” Hayek clarified, smiling.
FACEBOOK FACES OFF WITH GAY MEN’S RETAILER
Facebook might be on its way to Ireland but it’s facing criticism elsewhere. The social networking site has reportedly removed two pages from its site set up by the gay men’s retailer Priape, which is headquartered in Montreal, and Priape’s director of marketing and sales is not impressed.
“I’ve found sites for women in bondage, women in latex,” said Michael Ain. “Bondage, whips and chains training is on here. It’s all women. I have to wonder if it’s an anti-gay approach to the same stuff. I have to be curious as to what we’re doing in the gay community as opposed to what other groups are doing.”
Priape originally set up a Priape group on Facebook about eight months ago to promote the retailer’s clothing and fashion lines,he added, and the group had about 1,600 members when Facebook cancelled the page.
“Around late July they terminated the site without explanation. Once they shut down the Priape group we started a fan page. Within a week and a half we had 4,000 members. We were very closely following the Facebook terms of use. About a month into it, it was flushed without explanation.”
Facebook is not thought to have given an explanation of its decision.
